As the 2008 presidential election approaches speeches and debates by both the candidates are in full swing. This is a great opportunity to teach across the curriculum using Politics/History as well as the fundamentals of Speech Communication. A great way to keep students engaged in these types of lessons is to use the a resources in which your students already know and perhaps no more about than you do, technology! After engaging in the first four classes of ETEC 424 I have learned that the youth of today need technology in their everyday lives. A blog such as this is a great way to keep students engaged because they are perhaps already using blogs at home!
In the class we have discussed different types of search engines and resources available for students. During this lecture I began to realize that my students could use these resources to research all types of different educational topics. In my particular field I thought I would have my students research the speeches currently being given by the 2008 presidential hopefuls, Senator Barack Obama, and Senator John McCain. After having my students evaluate two speeches I believe they can better discuss the issues and at the same time I can learn something new along with the students!
